?Unesco announced last week that Pagan (renamed Bagan in 1997) has attained World Heritage Site status after a twenty-five year application process. At last, the largest historical site in SE Asia with over 4,000 listed surviving monuments gets recognition. The biggest winner may be tourism and the looser might be the monuments themselves.
